Passion. Creativity. Tranquility. Calm. How many buzz words can I use to describe one of my absolute most favorite things to do? I can’t imagine not being able to pick up my camera or cellphone and take pictures every single day. So – you want to know why photography? Because I love it.
It’s not just about the actual act of photographing things – although it gives me a kind of weird joy to be able to stop a moment in its tracks. No, it’s also about the sense of fulfillment that comes from helping others to realize their own worth when they see how beautiful they look in their photos. Photographers get to bring joy to others from having their best memories to look back on. There are folks whose wedding I may have photographed years ago who are still looking at those pictures with warmth and love today.
Portraits capture the beauty of still life – a mother’s loving glance at her newborn baby, a man’s fondness for the woman he can now call his fiance, or a family’s Christmas spirit shining through the lights on their tree. And don’t even get me started on landscape photography – one of the best things I can do for myself as a form of self-therapy when I’m feeling low.
So, why photography? There’s so much more to it than holding down a shutter button and snapping a few pictures. This is art, and I wouldn’t dream of letting it go.
