3 Places in DE that Inspire Me

Yes, that’s right – I live in Dela-where?… There’s no getting around it – I’ve tried to leave, but it keeps pulling me back! Because I can’t leave, I’ve had to explore – and I’m sharing my top 3 inspirational places in DE with you.

I’ve heard from a lot of non-Delawareans that the rest of the United States seems to think Delaware is just full of houses and big office buildings and that there must be NOTHING to do here. And while it’s true that Delaware plays host to many businesses – thanks to our incorporation laws! – there are also lots of places where you can retreat from others and be inspired. *This list will contain spots found in New Castle County since that’s where I spend the majority of my time!

  1. Historic New Castle – Colloquially referred to as “Old New Castle,” the charms of this historic little town go far beyond the cobbled streets and brick buildings. Those things make for great photography, yes. But the best part of being here is the sense that while you move through town, you’re walking through someone else’s everyday routine from history. I love strolling through the small Battery Park area of ONC, and the shops and restaurants offer something for everyone. (My favorite little cafe in ONC right now is The Mercury – great lattes and amazing food!)
  2. White Clay Creek Park – A runner-up for first place (which was a super hard decision), White Clay Creek is both large and beautiful. I first discovered my love for nature/outdoor photography here. The walking trails are well-kept, but you still feel like you’re in a secluded forest with only a fisherman here and there to cross your path.
  3. Claymont Public Library – Newly constructed and renovated, the Claymont Public Library is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The building’s feature is the back wall of windows that looks out onto Darley Road. Books cover the other walls and aisles, and there is ample seating for someone like me who comes here to sit down with my laptop and a coffee and write or edit photos or learn. Inspirational indeed!

I couldn’t recommend these spots more. I know Delaware is small and seems unexciting, but there is so much to see and do. Where do you go to get inspired? I’m always looking for new places to visit, so if you have somewhere to add to the list, leave a comment below and share it!

Until next time!
